Hope

Is it really over? I don't want it to be. I want to run. I want to run far and fast. My mind doesn't want to accept what I found out last week. My heart is truly broken more than my body. I love peaches but life isn't always peaches n cream.A few weeks ago I was in a car accident. I was rear ended on the highway. Traffic was coming to a stop for construction when the driver behind me took his eyes off the road and slammed into me. At first I was rattled up and stiff but didn't think I had...

Impact

You never know the impact you will have on someone's life. A year and a half ago I met Vicente at Miami Children's Hospital. He was only five years old and battling brain cancer. I heard he liked basketball so I gave him a brand new basketball that had "MVP" written across it. The look of happiness on his face for that moment was enough to feel good. The whole room seemed to get brighter when he smiled. I shared stories with Vicente of marathon running while dribbling two basketballs and he...

Every Moment Counts

I'm not taking anything for granted. There is so much to be thankful for. I'm lucky to live in Miami where I can train outdoors all year long. There is something euphoric about a long distance run. It seems like no matter what obstacles I face, a good run always makes everything better. I enjoy not having to worry about my shoe laces coming untied. Now that I've found LaceClips, I never have to tie my shoes again! You can get yours at www.LaceClips.com.   The future is bright. Last...

Another Planet

The Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon holds a special place in my heart. I broke a Guinness World Record the first time in 2013 and last year was the longest it ever took me to complete a full marathon. This year I had no pressure, no injuries, and no reason to run the full. What would the half marathon have in store for me? Something that's never happened before. As Magda and I were driving to the race, I realized I had forgotten my bib! I didn't want to turn around so I said I'd just run...

Patience and Progress

Have patience because everything is difficult before it gets easy. A little progress everyday adds up to big results. One day of being healthy won't make you fit for life but it's certainly a step in the right direction. I'm so proud of all my clients. I wish I could be everyone's personal trainer and private basketball coach. Every week the change is noticeable. Last week I increased the amount of weight someone was using and they looked surprised. They were even more surprised when after they...

Dribble On

Somebody told me when I was a kid "Every day you're not working, someone else is getting better." It motivated me so much that I even printed it on a banner and hung it up in my room. Remember when you were young? I was a spaceman and still sort of am. All these things that I've done are reflections of my dreams. I'm the same flesh and bone as anyone but my attitude is that of Mr. Brightside. Ask the runaways and they'll tell you this river is wild. I would tell them to smile like you mean it....

Miami Famous

I dribble basketballs. Since I was a kid I always had a fixation on ball control drills. Pistol Pete inspired me to create my own drills that I now teach privately to young basketball players and even some professionals! I also do personal training. Helping people crush their health and fitness goals is a very gratifying job. I love fitness as a whole. I have had the privilege of traveling all over the US and Canada to run marathons, host basketball clinics, and learn about health and...

Excellence

The first ever Doctor Dribble Mini Camp in Puerto Rico was a success. Seeing so many passionate young ball players inspired me to give them the best ball handling clinic I could. I had three sessions for boys and girls based on age. The first group was ages 5-8, then 9-12, and 13-17. I worked with each group for three intense hours at a time. I had the help of Glen Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico and former player at La Salle High in Miami and Manhattanville College. Basketball is definitely...

Universal Language

Something's don't need any translating. At least I hope not. If that's true, basketball is certainly one of them. I'm back in Puerto Rico to host my first of many Doctor Dribble Camps on this beautiful island. Lil Ball has been helping me with my Spanish. She told me to say "Como yo." I've been practicing. I'm going to put all the kids through my favorite ball control drills. They are in for a tough workout. My goal is for everyone to learn my secrets of how to train efficiently and to...

Next Chapter

I may not have done everything I set out for in the past 12 months. Maybe it's because I set high expectations for myself. Maybe I focus too much of my energy in certain areas. Maybe I didn't fully apply myself. Whatever the reasons, I don't look at my shortcomings as a failure. Anyone that manages to reach all of their goals isn't setting the bar high enough. When I look back at this past year and think of all the people I've helped, it makes me happy. From the monies raised, children in my...

Give Presence

I've traveled more the last two years than my previous 30! Marathoning, speaking, and basketball clinics have given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people while exploring new places. This weekend however, it wasn't about me. I came to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico to support Jonathan Holton in his first major basketball tournament of the year. Sponge, as many people call him, is a starting forward for the West Virginia University Mountaineers. I've trained and developed many...

Superhero

There is a superhero in every one of us. We all have unique super powers that contribute to the world we share. As far as I'm concerned, if you give people a reason to smile, you are saving a life, and that makes you a superhero. This weekend I dribbled through the Disney Avengers Half Marathon in Los Angeles. I gave thousands of runners a reason to smile. Once again the weather conditions made this race one of the most challenging but I gave people hope. In just a few weeks I'll be providing...
