Resilience

Congratulations Alonzo Mourning! Your "Resilience" has made your name immortal in the Basketball Hall of Fame! Zo overcame adversity after adversity throughout his life to get where he is today. Just more proof that hard work pays off and nothing great ever comes easy. If you want something bad enough you can find a way. Nothing is impossible. His son Tre will be playing at Georgetown next year following in his dad's footsteps. I worked with Tre when he was just a child and watched him develop...

Ordinary Human

He wasn't a wizard. He wasn't perfect. John Wooden was "The Indiana Rubber Man" who as a basketball player was known for his suicidal dives on the hardcourt. He was one of the greatest players of his time winning a high school state championship and a college national championship. John Wooden was named a collegiate All American three consecutive years, the first to ever do it. He was also the first to ever be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame both as a player and a coach. In 2006...

Believe

July 28th, 2014 You are whatever you believe you are. You can do whatever you believe you can do. It doesn't mean that all you have to do is "bo-lieve" like the inspirational WWE wrestler Bo Dallas. Confidence is generated by work ethic. Before running my first full marathon in 2012, I hadn't ran more than 3.1 consecutive miles until a week before the race. I had however, been training at Newton's 5-6 days a week and built up tolerance of going 3-4 hours a day. The training consisted of...

Out-Dribble Diabetes

July 21st, 2014 I’m not sure what’s next but I am officially registered for the Chicago and New York City Marathons! They are two of largest marathons in world! Marathoning is incredible. How else can up to 50,000 people from different countries, backgrounds, and cultures come together and participate in the same activity? Everyone of them has a story. A reason why they are running. What got them there. What they’ve had to overcome to be in the position to win. As far as I’m...

The Ripple Effect

July 14, 2014 The Ripple Effect Every action has a reaction. We as people so small have the ability to change a world so big. When our lights shine it give others the inspiration to do wonderful things. A month ago I received a hand written letter in the mail from a fellow Lululemon ambassador across the country. Katie Be Happyy had a bold request to participate in a challenge on social media. All she was asking for was to perform random acts of kindness for 10 days and post them on...

Free To Be

July 7th, 2014 The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. I even cheat on my diet for it! Well deserved, I feasted the entire weekend! Freedom is essentially what gives me pride and hope. In this country we have no limits. If you want something you don't have, you are free to work hard for it. I don't mind working hard. I've been on the grind my entire life and love it. Freedom gives me hope. Optimus Prime says "There are many mysteries of the universe but who we are and why we are here...

Patience, Practice, & Love

Healthy outlets are essential. What I admire most about a yoga pose is the transition to get in and out of it. Now is a transition period in my life and at times I feel lost. Everyone experiences this at some point or another. There are so many beautiful things I want to experience, feel, and share while alive. Legendary coach Phil Jackson says that "love is the force that ignites the spirit and binds teams together.” It’s intriguing how successful people attribute love to their eminence....

A Town Called Paradise

June 23rd, 2014 John Wooden says that "after love, balance is most important." He would be proud of me. I've been successful at balancing many things recently besides my basketballs. Maybe it's because I doubled up on yoga. I even kept my best balance holding a handstand yet! Still room for improvement though. Practice makes perfect!Things are easier when you have rhythm so I've been jamming out to Tiesto's new album since it released Tuesday! "Footprints" motivates me. I'm trying to leave...

Father’s Day

June 16th, 2014 While the temperature in Miami was burning hot, the hearts of heat fans turned ice cold as we watched our great team get defeated by a superior one. The San Antonio Spurs are unique. They're the most international team in NBA history. They are the most humble team I've ever witnessed. No one is too good to be criticized by their coach. The ball movement was so incredible they didn't depend on any one player. They respect each other and their opponents. As Kawhi Leonard won...

Heat Wave

June 9th, 2014 Things got Heated in San Antonio for Game 1 of the NBA Finals. So hot that the fans in the AT&T Center used their noise makers as fans to cool themselves off rather than cheer. LeBron took the majority of the heat when his body cramped up and wasn't able to finish the game as Miami was defeated. John Wooden said "not preparing is preparing to fail," but nobody expected the AC to malfunction causing temperatures to rise up to 90 degrees! All great players bounce back like...

Back To Cali

June 2nd, 2014 I can understand why Biggie & 2Pac fell in love with the west coast. It's just so chill. This past weekend I had the chance to go back back to Cali Cali for the Rock N Roll San Diego Marathon and Half Marathon. This time I intentionally dribbled the half! As long as you can learn from your mistakes they're not really mistakes. It was quite a busy weekend for me. I arrived in classy San Diego on Friday and went directly to the Scott Kaplan Sports Talk radio show. His...

White Hot Blog

May 26th, 2014 It all happened in a flash! The NBA and Miami Heat asked me to assist them with a Flashmob. It consisted of over 100 dancers, 5 basketball players who can straight up ball, Heat dancers, and the talented and hilarious mascot, Burnie. It was all in celebration of the NBA Playoffs and my favorite team! In just 3 days I helped recruit dancers and taught them to become more comfortable controlling the ball during their choreography. Lil Ball wasn't reluctant one bit to join the...
