There’s a first for everything
Being my first blog I have much to catch up on. The first week of the year I made a long dream a reality by creating a charity of my own, Doctor Dribble’s Helping Hands. The first race of the year was the Walt Disney World Half Marathon followed by the Full Marathon the very next day! I wasn’t alone on that. My girlfriend Magda took on the Goofy Challenge as well. Who runs their first ever marathon the day after running a half? My lil lady does.
A week after that I was in Arizona for my first Rock n’ Roll half marathon of the year. I’m not used to seeing mountains and cacti every direction I look. The P.F. Chang’s dragon was cool too! I got to visit my cousin Tanya who gave me one piece of advice, wear lip balm. Of course I didn’t and learned the hard way.
As much as I love traveling, there’s no place like home. Feb 2nd I did the Miami Marathon which is where it all began! A year ago I went to Frankie Ruiz for permission to dribble two basketballs throughout the race and he gave it the ok! My encore was warmly received by friends, family, and fellow runners. I finished in 4 hours 16 minutes and 13 seconds which will be a new Guinness World Record thanks to Claudio, Oscar, Tommy, Nataly, and Ronald for taking turns recording me while running alongside of me. Then came the Ft Lauderdale Marathon 2 weeks later, followed by Tour de Broward, Miami Beach 13.1, and Gulliver’s Special Olympics 5K.
Finally up to date, this weekend I was in Washington D.C. with Peach for Rock n’ Roll USA. The race started off cold but warmed up in no time. Running past famous landmarks and tons of people cheering along the way made it go by quickly. On the plane back we sat next to actress and comedian Kym Whitley. Best flight ever!
What I do is much more” than a marathon and it’s bigger than basketball. This year I’ve personally handed out brand new basketballs to sick patients at Miami Children’s Hospital, and a boy that lost his home to a fire. I spoke to a group of teens at Inspirations Recovery Center, flew to Connecticut to spend a day at Highcrest Elementary, and while in DC spoke at the Bald Eagle Rec Center.
Wrapping up the weekend I played in the Court Of Dreams Celebrity Basketball Game to benefit a local youth travel team consisting of inner city boys. It was celebs vs the South Beach All-Stars including LeBron James’ son Bronny. The game was hosted by Super Bowl champ Bryant McKinnie while Jamie Foxx and Big Lip Bandit MC’d. On my team were NFL players Antrel Rolle, Andre Johnson, and Darius Butler, R&B singer Tank, Jack McClinton, DJ Stevie J, Black Dadda, Lil Terio, Lambo, Uptown Dale, And1 players, super models Erica Mena and Cyn Santana, and more! Everybody came together to support a great group of kids making all the right moves on and off the court!
I finally did it! Truth is, I is a lonely word. It stands alone. As a matter of fact, I haven’t done anything meaningful without help. Doctordribble.com is finally launched thanks to web developer and IT genius Tony Ellis! My site includes information about me, my charity, my services, and more! Please comeback every Monday for my latest blog. It’s ALIVE!!
